Apple’s New Privacy Guidelines May Get Facebook’s Awful Onavo VPN Off the App Store

Apple’s new App Store guidelines ban apps that collect data on users friends for marketing purposes. But the company could also be targeting Facebooks Onavo Protect VPN service. This could give Apple grounds to remove the VPN service from the App Store. Facebook could simply change its own data-collection practices or simply hope that its sheer clout prevents Apple from taking action, given Apple explicitly used Facebook as an example of a bad actor at its recent WWDC 2018 conference. The software is still available despite the rules kicking in last week, but it could be a sign that the Apple-Facebook standoff is heating up.”]
