Apple, Facebook, Google Before Senate Panel

The Senate Commerce subcommittee hearing will focus on industry practices on online mobile data collection and usage. The hearing also will explore the possible role of the federal government in protecting consumers in the mobile marketplace. The Do-Not-Track Online Act of 2011 would provide consumers with the ability to better protect their personal information from being collected and used by online companies. Committee chairman Jay Rockefeller has sponsored a number of bills aimed at protecting consumers’ privacy, including a bill he introduced earlier this month.
