Akamai sees record-setting spikes in size and volume of DDoS attacks

The size and volume of DDoS attacks has exploded in the past year, Akamai Technologies says. The company saw a 389 percent increase in average attack bandwidth between the third quarter of 2013 and 2014. Online entertainment, media and technology companies were the most targeted in the 3rd quarter. DDoS-for-hire attacks fueled by easy-to-use interfaces, a growing DDoS industry and a mass exploitation of Web vulnerabilities, company says. Nearly 24 percent of the attacks originated from the U.S., 20 percent were from China and 18 percent from Brazil.”]
