Agencies Issue Final Rules on ID Theft Red Flags

Federal agencies issue Final Rules on ID Theft Red Flags and Notices of Address Discrepancy. The new rules take effect on Jan. 1, 2008. Each financial institution’s ID Theft Prevention Program must include: reasonable policies and procedures for detecting, preventing and mitigating identity theft. Deadline for compliance is Nov. 1; not every company will have to have an identity theft prevention program. The rules also require credit and debit card issuers to assess the validity of a request for a change of address.”]
