Accused Russian Botnet Mastermind Extradited to US

Peter Levashov, 37, of St. Petersburg, Russia, allegedly ran Kelihos botnet that pumped out spam, banking Trojans and ransomware. He was arrested last year in Spain, where he was vacationing with his wife and son. Jury selection for his case is scheduled to begin April 10; he faces up to 52 years in prison. U.S. officials quickly dismissed any suggestion that there were any national security ties to the suspect, saying it was a criminal matter.”]
