Wendy’s reached a proposed settlement with financial institutions that would pay out $50 million. The fast-food giant says it expects to pay about $27.5 million, while the rest will be covered by insurance. The settlement agreement must still be approved by the court, and the payment would not be made until late in 2019. Wendy’s says 1,025 of its restaurants’ point-of-sale systems were hit by two waves of malware in 2016 and 2017. The plaintiffs estimate that 18 million payment cards issued by approximately 7,500 financial institutions were compromised.”]
