Missouri Governor’s Hack Accusation Loses Steam

Missouri’s governor accused a reporter of malicious hacking after he alerted the state to exposed Social Security numbers. Josh Renaud, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch developer and reporter, found the numbers in the HTML source code of a state education website. Missouri’s Office of Administration characterized the reporter as “a hacker” and referred the case to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, where it remains under investigation. The FBI dismissed the incident, saying there was no intrusion and that the state’s database was misconfigured.”]
