Missouri’s governor accused a reporter of malicious hacking after he alerted the state to exposed Social Security numbers. Josh Renaud, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch developer and reporter, found the numbers in the HTML source code of a state education website. Missouri’s Office of Administration characterized the reporter as “a hacker” and referred the case to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, where it remains under investigation.
