FBI’s Zero-Day iPhone Hack: Many Questions

The Washington Post reports that the FBI paid hackers a flat fee to crack an iPhone 5c. The report says the FBI used a zero-day flaw they’d found to crack the phone’s PIN code. Security experts say they’re skeptical of the report. The FBI declined to comment on the Post report in particular, although pointed to recent “going dark” warnings sounded by bureau officials in speeches and congressional testimony. FBI Director James Comey says he hasn’t decided yet if the FBI will disclose the flaw to Apple. Apple has said it won’t sue the Department of Justice in an attempt to obtain the vulnerability.”]
