$45 Million Heist: Lessons for Banks

The $45 million ATM cash-out scheme closely resembles attacks the industry has battled in the past. The 2008 RBS WorldPay heist resulted in the theft of $9 million. The U.S. Department of Justice says eight defendants and their co-conspirators conducted two massive fraud operations. The operation involved hacking into payment card processors’ networks, increasing prepaid debit-card limits and speedily withdrawing $45M from ATMs worldwide, federal authorities say. The good news is that the alleged fraudsters involved in this latest bust were brought to justice quickly, an analyst says.”]
