Ransomware victims paid an average ransom amount of $170,404 in 2020, reports Sophos. The highest ransom payout among those organizations surveyed was $3.2 million less than a third of what the meat company paid. Many attackers know that larger companies can afford to pay high ransoms because they wont be paying alone. The average ransom demand increased to between $50 million and $70 million over the first half of the year. Attackers know this gives them all they need to demand even more from their victims.”]
