Apple takes strong privacy stance in new report, publishes rare warrant canary

Apple’s new transparency report uses a “warrant canary” to indicate if the government has requested user information. The tactic is a novel legal tactic used to indicate a warrant has been served. The only problem is that warrant canaries have yet to be fully tested in court. Apple did not mention Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Amendments Act, which compels companies to share data on foreigners and provides the legal basis for the National Security Agency’s PRISM program.”]
