Michigan Practice to Shutter after Hackers Delete Patient Files

Michigan-based Brookside ENT and Hearing Center plans to close, after hackers deleted all patient files during a ransomware attack. Hackers demanded $6,500 to decrypt the files, but the owners refused the ransom demand. No patient data was accessed, as the electronic health record systems files were encrypted. Staff will field all patient questions and provide referrals, before the practice permanently closes on April 30. The FBI is still investigating the hack, which the owners said was confined to their practice.”]
