Google has released software that can be flashed onto third-party security key dongles for $10. The company hopes the open-source software will be a valuable tool for security researchers, hackers, and even other companies making security key hardware to foster new features. Google claims there are now over 2.5 billion Android devices in the world, compared to around 1.3 billion running iOS, so giving away software to help foster adoption isnt an entirely baffling idea. At launch, Google has chosen the Nordic nRF52840 as the initial hardware reference dongle for the project, which boasts almost all the same features as the Titan security keys.”]
