Hackers Can Turn Body Cameras Into Malware Spewing Machines, Security Expert Says

Security expert Josh Mitchell demonstrated vulnerabilities in body cameras made by Vievu, Patrol Eyes, Fire Cam, Digital Ally, and CeeSc. Cameras from Axon, the largest manufacturer in the US, weren’t examined for vulnerabilities. Hackers could hijack the cameras to spread malicious code throughout police networks, Mitchell says. The cameras don’t use cryptographic mechanisms to confirm uploaded videos are legitimate. Mitchell says he’s been in contact with all five companies to patch the cameras.
