Don’t Call it a Comeback: L0phtcrack Returns

After several years in forced exile, the venerable L0phtcrack password-auditing tool made its return to the scene earlier this year. Researcher Matt Nelson disclosed another Windows UAC bypass, one that makes use of Event Viewer to hijack registry entries and run code. The tool is based on the 1998 testimony of Space Rogue, aka Space Rogue of the L0PHt, by Cris Thomas of Tenable Networks, who talks to Mike Mimoso about the rhetoric and hype surrounding cyberwar.
