Worms and Scareware Attacks on the Rise

Microsoft released its biannual Security Intelligence Report with surprising conclusions about how the threat landscape is impacting enterprise networks. The number of rogue security software infections was down, as was the number of Trojan and downloader infections. Computer worm infections, on the other hand, surged upward. Researchers spotted notable code overlap between the Sunburst backdoor and a known Turla weapon. Researchers at Recorded Future report a rise in cracked Cobalt Strike and other open-source adversarial tools with easy-to-use interfaces.
