A third of the UK’s universities have admitted to being a victim of a ransomware attack. One university reported more than 40 attacks since 2013, most of them between 2015 and 2017. Most of the respondents confirmed falling victim to the attacks said that they didn t pay a ransom to the attackers, although some were more reserved and declined to answer. The University of Oxford, for instance, stated that a successful attack would then be regarded in criminal circles as a noteworthy achievement, particularly in view of Oxford s high public profile.
