NSA Director Says U.S. Working to Push Attack Data to ISPs

Gen. Keith Alexander said that the static defenses that have been in place on military, government and civilian networks since the dawn of the Internet age are no longer sufficient. Attackers have long since developed methods for subverting these systems, Alexander said. He pointed to the attacks against RSA, Lockheed Martin, DigiNotar and others as links in a chain of intrusions that show the multitude of weak spots in today s defenses. Alexander also stressed that the security of our networks and the protection of privacy and civil liberties do not need to be opposing goals.
