ESET and Zscaler researchers recently disclosed they’ve reported nearly 100 malicious Android apps on the Google Play Store. ESET security researcher Lukas Stefanko says 87 Android apps posing as Minecraft mods contained two malware strains. The apps would only work during the installation process, focusing on luring the user into granting them admin privileges. In total, the apps reached up to 990,000 installs before Google removed them from the store. The most dangerous of these apps were the first 14, the most dangerous, as the attacker could have easily downloaded a more advanced malware.
