Researchers uncovers ultimate man-in-the-middle attack that used an elaborate spoofing campaign to fool a Chinese VC firm and rip off an emerging business. An attacker used unique tactics, including communicating through email and canceling a critical in-person meeting to fool both parties on either end of the transfer, researchers said. The $1 million wire-transfer made between the two parties never reached the startup. Researchers offer recommendations to avoid scenarios like this one they uncovered.
