A Dozen Nation-Backed APTs Tap COVID-19 to Cover Spy Attacks

A dozen nation-state-backed APTs are using the coronavirus pandemic as a cover for their cyberespionage and malware activities, according to Google s Threat Analysis Group. The group has also seen phishing and other social-engineering efforts. One campaign targeted U.S. government employees with phishing lures using fast food franchises and fast-food outlets. Another campaign targeted Chinese government agencies in an apparent bid to steal intelligence regarding the country’s COVID-19 response.
