Police Use of Facial Recognition is Just Fine, Say Most Americans

A survey by Pew Research Center finds that Americans support use of facial recognition by law enforcement, but not by tech or advertising companies. About 59 percent said it is acceptable for law enforcement to use facial recognition tools to assess security threats in public spaces. Only about a third (36 percent) said they trust technology companies and a dismal 18 percent said they trusted advertisers to use the technology responsibly. Most Americans have heard about facial recognition technology in general (86 percent), with one-quarter having heard a lot about it.
