Google to Allow webRequest Ad Blocking for Enterprise Deployments

Google will deprecate all blocking capabilities in the webRequest API as part of future Chrome Extensions platform Manifest V3 changes. Enterprise deployments are the exception to the rule, with blocking still available to those with appropriate permissions. Google is planning to expand the number of maximum allowed “static rules declared in. JSON files and dynamic rules set at runtime”” with the current max values only having the role of placeholders as described in the DNR properties documentation. The declarativeNetRequest API is actively being improved with the extensions team having listened to all expressed developer concerns.”
