Safari, Virtualbox, VMware Get Hacked During First Day of Pwn2Own 2019

The first day of Pwn2Own Vancouver 2019 saw contestants successfully hack into Apple Safari web browser, Oracle’s VirtualBox, and VMware Workstation, earning a total of $240,000 in cash awards. The Fluoroacetate team targeted all three apps during the first day, exploiting all of them and making $160,000. This year’s edition of the contest is the first one with an automotive category with awards ranging from $35,000 to $300,000 depending on variety of factors including the exploit used when trying to hack a Tesla Model 3-range rear wheel drive.
