CNAME Cloaking is a DNS technique to evade browsers’ efforts to curb third-party cookies. The technique, dubbed CNAME cloaking, is used on 9.98% of the top 10,000 websites, in addition to 13 providers. The researchers say it’s used to leak sensitive private information without users’ knowledge and consent. The findings are expected to be presented in July at the 21st Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (PETS 2021) Google Chrome is expected to phase out cookies and trackers in Chrome in 2022.
