Apple agreed to move iCloud data belonging to Apple’s China-based users to Guizhou-Cloud Big Data’s servers in July 2018. The move raised concerns that it could make user data vulnerable to state surveillance. The New York Times report says Apple and China entered into an “unusual arrangement” to sidestep U.S. legislation. Apple has provided the contents of an unspecified number of iCloud accounts to the government in nine cases and challenged three government requests for data, the report added.
