Google Chrome to Help Users Identify Untrusted Extensions Before Installation

Google is rolling out new security features to Chrome browser aimed at detecting suspicious downloads and extensions via its Enhanced Safe Browsing feature. The feature, launched a year ago, will now offer additional protections when users attempt to install a new extension from the Chrome Web Store. Users can turn on the feature by visiting Settings > Privacy and security > Security > Enhanced protection. The new features are available starting with Chrome 91, the version of the browser that was released on May 26. The number of malicious extensions disabled by the browser jumped by 81%.
