BadNews’ Android Malware downloaded up to 9 million times

Malware that avoided detection and made its way onto the Google Play store has been downloaded around 9 million times by users from all over the world. Lookout Security said on Friday that it has discovered a new family of malware called BadNews. Malware has the ability to send fake news messages, prompt users to install applications and sends sensitive information such as the phone number and device ID to its Command and Control (C&C) server. BadNews has been identified as a malicious distribution network clearly posing as an ad network.
