NIDS Project Director Warren Vernon says the ID card will use the International Civil Aviation Organisation Standard, which will allow it to operate like a passport. Senator Aubyn Hill warns that private companies could start requiring the NIDS card for doing business. The issue was discussed Wednesday evening during a public consultation held by the joint select committee of parliament reviewing the National Identification and Registration Act. The NIDS project director says countries in Europe as well as South America are already using a similar system in Europe and South America.
