The National Identification System (NIDS) has divided opinions in Jamaica. The general atmosphere towards the proposed system does appear to be negative. However, there is potential for a transparent system that will revolutionise the way we operate. Jamaica currently lacks a dedicated national ID, hence the over-reliance on functional forms of ID, such as driver licence, voter ID, passport, etc. The advantage of NIDS is that it will be a digital platform, with layers of cybersecurity attached to enhance safety and accessibility.
