The Jamaica Observer published an article on November 11, 2020, about the US’ support for digital transformation in the Caribbean. Here’s a summary
The United States is working closely with Latin American and Caribbean partners in promoting digital-driven growth with privacy and security as the region has tremendous potential. Based on the “Growth in the Americas/America Crece” initiative, technical expertise and funding will be the main drivers in the Western Hemisphere. The initiative promotes private sector investments in energy and other related infrastructures such as telecommunications in Latin American and the Caribbean.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) released its first “Digital Strategy” which charts an agency-wide vision based on development and humanitarian assistance in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. The strategy is set to equip staff and empower partners to become self-reliant to lead their development journeys. The USAID currently leverages digital tools to advance digital connectivity, promote digital training skins, and increase access to digital financial services.
Over the next year, the series, “Project Resource Guides” will be released that features key Latin American and Caribbean project opportunities in the ICT sector. Through the DCCP, training and capacity building will be provided with partners as Federal Communications Commission and other related entities.
