Is It Time to Revisit Your Breach Response Plan?

State of Massachusetts issued warning to Prescription Advantage insurance program members about identity theft. The state has “no reason to believe” that members’ information has been misused. Every organization should have an incident response plan for data breaches that reads something like this: “Step 1: If the system breached is used to store and process personal information, immediately notify management and legal and public relations departments, then proceed with analysis by trained incident response specialists and forensic investigators. There also needs to be documentation on who is allowed to speak to the press, and how much they are allowed to say.”]
