Shutdown’s Impact on Federal IT Security

The partial government shutdown took effect at midnight Oct. 1. The National Institute of Standards and Technology says it’s suspending work on President Obama’s cybersecurity framework. Cybersecurity experts say perceived disruptions caused by the shutdown could encourage cyber-adversaries to increase their attacks and probes. The final version of the cybersecurity framework is due to be issued this coming February (see Identifying Gaps in Cyber Framework) The last time the federal government partly shutdown, during the Clinton administration in 1995 and 1996, government was far less dependent on IT for its operations.”]
