The Senate will begin debating cybersecurity legislation early next year. The Cybersecurity and Internet Freedom Act, S. 413, likely will be the focus of the debate. The bill would establish a White House Office of Cyberspace Policy, with its Senate-confirmed director. It also would reform the way IT security would be governed in the federal government, emphasizing real-time monitoring of government IT systems and a move away from paper-compliance under the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002. The House is taking a different, more piece-meal approach to cybersecurity legislation, rather than passage of a comprehensive measure.”]
