Ransomware Gets a New Twist?

Security firm Symantec has issued new warnings about a malware strain known as Poweliks. The year-old Trojan is now being used in conjunction with ransomware to target consumers. Fraud/security experts disagree over the severity of the threat, but say it is relatively low. The malware is an emerging adware click-fraud attack that is distributed via phishing. But Cylance’s Jon Miller says the ransomware connection to Powelks does not appear to be intentional, and therefore the overall threat posed by Powelk remains relatively low, Miller says.”]
