ID Theft Red Flags Rule: What Have Exams Uncovered?

The majority of institutions examined have been in compliance, with a minority failing to document or document their ID theft prevention programs. The Red Flags rule was adopted in late 2007, and regulators started examining for compliance last Nov. 1. Since examinations began, 59 violations of the rule have been reported in 55 credit unions. The National Credit Union Administration has reported 59 violations in 55 U.S. credit unions since the start of the Red Flags Rule began last November 1, 2010. The agency in June issued guidance on Frequently Asked Questions to help institutions with compliance.”]
