A new U.S. Government Accountability Office report calls for other methods of authentication at federal agencies. The report singles out the Social Security Administration, the Postal Service, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for continuing to use knowledge-based authentication. The GAO is asking the Office of Management and Budget, which has oversight over all the federal government’s IT practices, to require agencies to adopt new identification methods being developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.”]
