Applying Iris Images to PIV Cards

National Institute of Standards and Technology says iris images can be used as biometric identifiers. NIST says the iris standard ensures that iris data is interoperable between cameras and readers from different makers and across the world. The on-card comparison for fingerprints is aimed to improve privacy. The standard, ISO/IEC 19795-6, was published in late 2011 and is expected to meet the PIV requirement that irises would meet the requirement that biometric data should be viable over a 12-year period.”]
