New research details the privacy implications of email tracking

Princeton University researchers found 85 percent of emails contained embedded third-party content. 70 percent are the same ones involved in web tracking; 30 percent leak the recipients email address to one or more of these third parties when they are viewed. Google, Facebook, Twitter, Adobe, Microsoft, Pinterest, LiveIntent, Akamai, Acxiom and AppNexus are top recipients of leaked email addresses. Gmail accessed via the web, Android and iOS app, blocks proxies content, only blocks images on the web if the message is considered spam.”]
