Privacy groups urge US FTC to investigate WhatsApp promises

The FTC should step in to stop WhatsApp from sharing user data with Facebook, privacy groups say. WhatsApp has long billed itself as a secure and private messaging service. The groups say WhatsApp’s plan to share user data could amount to an “unfair and deceptive” trade practice. WhatsApp says it complies with “applicable” laws, says it considers its obligations to comply with the FTC when designing updates to its privacy policy. A Delhi High Court ordered WhatsApp to delete user data for people who opt out of the changes before Sunday.”]
