This year, the committee nominated a book that is well worthy of inclusion: Crypto: How the Code Rebels Beat the Government Saving Privacy in the Digital Age (2001) by Steven Levy. The book spans a timeframe from the 1970s through the 1990s when these issues gained broad public visibility.
