Activists decry computer crime proposal

A draft bill would expand the penalties in the U.S. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Digital rights activists have called for changes in the law after the suicide of Aaron Swartz earlier this year. Demand Progress, the digital rights group co-founded by Swartz, said it will oppose efforts to pass the draft bill. The draft bill is just the beginning of a process to amend the CFAA, a House Judiciary Committee staffer says. The bill is being circulated to generate discussion and to “bring everyone to the table to make necessary changes””]
