Twitter releases first report on govt requests for user information

Twitter released a report on user information requests it received from governments this year. Between Jan. 1 and June 30, Twitter received 679 requests for information from the U.S. government. The number of requests in 2012 has already exceeded the total for all of 2011. Twitter provided all or part of the information requested in 75 percent of the cases initiated by the government. Most requests were in connection with criminal investigations or cases, Twitter said. Most Twitter users are in the United States, according to data published in January.”]
