‘Girls Around Me’ shows a dark side of social networks

The Girls Around Me app collected data from FourSquare and matched it with Facebook profiles. The app’s makers pulled the app from the App Store after it violated FourSquare privacy policies. Privacy advocates say people don’t know the extent of what they’re sharing on social networks. FourSquare said the app violated its privacy policy by “aggregating information across venues” The app had been downloaded 70,000 times, the makers of Girls around Me said.
