UK Government Plans Database of Citizens’ Email, Phone and Web Use

New Communications Capabilities Development Programme (CCDP) to be announced as early as May 2012. New plan would require all calls, emails, texts and websites visited for a year to be stored in database. The idea was first mooted in 2008 but was quickly ruled out due to the size of the number of calls and emails the government would need to make sure the data is accurate. The new plan is being backed by the UK’s main intelligence-gathering hub, GCHQ, which will have the power to monitor calls and texts.”]
