Feds Charge 7 in ‘massive’ Case Against Megaupload Online Piracy Ring

Seven individuals and two companies were charged with multiple counts of racketeering, copyright infringement, and money laundering. The FBI seized $50 million in Megaupload assets and served 20 search warrants in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands. Four of the seven men were arrested today in New Zealand; three others remain at large. The arrests follow on the heels of a widespread “Internet strike” against anti-piracy legislation in the United States. The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act are designed to make it easier for copyright holders to take down foreign websites that distribute pirated movies, music and software.”]
