New Guidelines Explain How Apple will Legally Process Law Enforcement Data Requests

Apple releases new guidelines regarding requests for customer data from U.S. law enforcement agencies. The company says it can only extract active user-generated data from even passcode-locked iOS devices. Apple can’t extract data from its own first party app that includes SMS messages, photos, videos, contacts, audio recording, and call history. Apple says it will notify its customers when their personal information is being sought in response to legal process except in some specific cases in which it will stay silent.
