DOJ Won’t Comment on Reports of MPEG LA Probe

The Wall Street Journal says the DOJ is investigating patent management firm MPEG LA. The firm is accused of trying to suppress an open-source video compression format supported by Google. Google acquired VP8 as part of its purchase of On2 Technology in 2009. Google dropped support for H.264 in its Chrome Browser this year, citing a long-standing dispute with the company’s VP8 video codec. The DOJ would not comment Friday on the reports that the agency is investigating the patent management company.”]
