Sirius Bug Could Signal Satellite Piracy Trend

Sirius XM Radio has quietly fixed a bug in its satellite radio system. The bug allowed former Sirius subscribers to gain free access to the Sirius service. Security vendor TippingPoint Technologies found out about the issue when it was reported to the company’s Zero Day Initiative. The July 10 problem involved the deactivation process used to cancel subscriptions. Industry watchers say with a combined audience of more than 18.5 million XM subscribers, pirates may now have incentive to create illegal devices that can receive XM signals.”]
