A federal judge barred the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from publicizing its free credit monitoring for the 26.5 million veterans affected by the data loss in May. Lawyers involved in the class-action lawsuit against the VA think that taking the offer will jeopardize veterans chances of winning more money. The current suit seeks free monitoring and other credit protection for an indefinite period as well as $1,000 in damages for each person.
